Polydactyly: A Rare Genetic Condition
Mar 13, 2026 3:02 AM

Polydactyly is a rare genetic condition characterized by extra fingers or toes. This condition can occur on either the hands or feet and, in some cases, both. The extra digits can be fully formed, partially formed or just small, non-functional stubs. Polydactyly can occur in isolation or as part of a genetic syndrome. The condition is usually diagnosed at birth, and treatment may involve surgical removal of the extra digits.
